Anthozoans exist as polyps rather than as medusas or instead with life cycles that alternate between the polyp and medusa form. As such, anthozoans tend to have their mouths facing approximately upward, with their tentacles suggesting a flower-like appearance.
Depending on the species, anthozoans can exist as either solitary or colonial animals.
