Study of the structure and coarse grained function of especially macromolecules.
Exactly what Molecular Biology consists of is a bit difficult to define. It is not biochemistry, but does overlap in its emphasis with biochemistry. It is not molecular genetics, but again does overlap in its emphasis with molecular genetics. It also is not biotechnology or simply molecular techniques, though is not entirely distinct in its emphasis from these either. |
Molecular biology is the study particularly of such macromolecules as proteins and nucleic acids. Contrast with the study of large macromolecular complexes (cell biology) and that of the finer-grained chemistry of living things (biochemistry).
