Use of microorganisms to reduce pollution levels in environments.

Bioremediation is the harnessing of the metabolism of microorganisms to break down toxins found within environments, and this can involve either the cultivating in situ of indigenous organisms, adding new organisms to environments, or instead temporary removal of the environment so that it can be exposed ex situ to effecting organisms.
