Form of life that is composed of one or more membrane-enclosed entities that are either capable of or are the product of binary fission, mitosis, or meiosis.

Most organisms are cellular organisms. Viruses, by contrast, do not consist of cells, and therefore are acellular.

Some (perhaps many) argue that only those organisms that consist of cells in fact are organisms.
