Interphase

Portion of the cell cycle that is other than nuclear or cytoplasmic division.

That is, other than mitosis (M phase) or cytokinesis. It is during interphase that a cell does everything that it does when it is not dividing.

Most cells spend the majority of their time in interphase, which can be differentiated into a G1 phase, an S phase, and a G2 phase, where "G" stands for Gap and "S" stands for Synthesis (as in DNA biosynthesis, i.e., DNA replication).
