Study of the biology of acellular organisms.

Virology has deep roots in the study of virus-caused diseases, more so even than the study of viruses themselves, and as a consequence there is a tradition of studying viruses within the context of virology particularly in terms of how virus biology impacts virus virulence against host organisms.

See Virus-caused diseases.

The following is a list of major concepts associated with the science of virology:

Adsorption, Antisense (-) strand, Attachment (viral), Bacteriophage, Biosynthesis (viral), Budding, Capsid, Capsomeres, Complex virus, cytopathic effects, Envelope, Enveloped virus, Fusion (virus), Helical virus, Latent infection, Lysogenic conversion, Lysogenic cycle, Lysogeny, Lytic cycle, Maturation (viral), Nonenveloped virus, Nucleocapsid, Obligatory intracellular parasite, One-step growth curve, Penetration (viral), Pinocytosis (virus), Plaque-forming unit, Plaque, Polyhedral virus, Prions, Prophage, Provirus, Release (viral), Retrovirus, Reverse transcriptase, Sense (+) strand, Single-step growth curve, Specialized transduction, Spike (viral), Uncoating (virus), Viral species, Virion, Viroid, Virology, Virus
