Electron carrier molecule generated during Krebs cycle, other than NADH.
The electrons carried by FADH2 are less energetic than those associated with NADH and therefore give rise to less proton pumping upon donation to electron transport chains. Indeed, FADH2 results in less ATP generation than NADH, which generally is approximately as 2 ATP versus ~3 ATP for NADH. See also ATP bookkeeping.
