Metabolic Water

Product of cellular respiration that is the direct consequence of reduction of oxygen.

Metabolic water is generated when molecular oxygen serves as the final electron acceptor of electron transport chains.

Metabolic water is chemically indistinguishable from ordinary water found in the body, being distinctive only in terms of how it is generated.

The formation of metabolic water can be viewed as a reversal of sorts of the generation of molecular oxygen during the light reaction of photosynthesis, where water instead is oxidized (that is, versus oxygen being reduced). Indeed, the oxygen generated during photosynthesis from water is the same oxygen that is employed as the final electron acceptor of cellular respiration to generate metabolic water.
