Microtubule

Cytoskeleton member associated with mitotic spindle, centrioles/centrosomes, cilia and flagella, etc.

Microtubules are complexes of the protein, tubulin. They are the largest diameter of the cytoskeleton members and serve as "monorails" along which organelles can move about (see kinesin and dynein). They are built up and broken down rather dynamically (i.e., dynamic instability), allowing the cell to change shape.

Other cytoskeleton members in eukaryotic cells include microfilaments and intermediate filaments.
