Fluorescent Antibody Techniques

Any of a number of serological tests and technologies that employ tags that glow upon exposure to ultraviolet light.

This glowing is termed fluorescence and by tagging antibodies with molecules that fluoresce, one is able to easily visualize both that antibody binding has occurred and, given sufficient microscopic power, precisely where in association with cells and tissues that binding has occurred. See equivalently immunofluorescence.

Fluorescent antibody (FA) techniques include direct fluorescent-antibody tests, indirect fluorescent-antibody tests, Fluorescent-Activated Cell Sorting (FACS), fluorescent in situ hybridization, and fluorescence microscopy.
